----> BOY SCOUTS for boys ages 11-17
----> VENTURING for male and female youth ages 14-21 We
offer only the BOY SCOUT program at this time. Click HERE for a
map of other Scouting units in our area. VISIT
THE TROOP. We
meet most Sundays from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM at Westminster
Methodist Church,
5801 San Felipe at Bering. Check our calendar
to make sure we are meeting on the day you choose to visit. You do
not need an invitation to visit our meetings or Courts
of Honor. You will always be welcome! You DO need to bring a
parent with you. HAVE
YOUR PARENT FILL OUT THE PAPERWORK AND PAY THE REGISTRATION FEE.
They will fill out a youth application for Boy Scouts and a
registration form for the parents. We have a permission slip that
enables us to do what need to be done in case of emergency. There
is also a Photo Release Form if you want your pictures to be
included on this website (it's optional). The registration fee is
$30.00 per year. You will receive a Boy Scout Handbook, a roster,
a Lone Star Challenge book, and a Troop T-shirt. The shirt, when
worn with official Scout pants, makes a "Class B"
uniform. REVIEW
THE CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS PACKET WITH YOUR PARENTS.
In the front of your new Scout Handbook, there is a detachable
booklet explaining how to prevent child abuse from occurring and
the Boy Scouts of America's Youth Protection Program. Though this
may be a difficult topic to discuss, this information is very
important. The booklet will help new Scouts recognize and avoid
potential abuse situations. VISIT
YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR AND COMPLETE THE CLASS III PHYSICAL FORM.
The Boy Scouts of America requires all Scouts to have a physical
exam record on file. It must be less than 3 years old. The
physical helps ensure that the Scouts are not engaging in any
physical activity that is not appropriate for their health
condition. If you do not have a family doctor, most clinics will
do the physical. SHOW
THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THE SCOUT OATH, LAW, MOTTO,
SLOGAN, AND OUTDOOR CODE.
These "rules" form the backbone of Scouting. Your Scout
Handbook explains these thoroughly, but you may find it helpful
for an experienced Scout to explain them. Memorizing the words is
not enough. They are the rules you pledge to live by---in order to
do that, you have to understand what they mean! LEARN
TO TIE A SQUARE KNOT.
It's easy! Our Scouts will be happy to show you how! EXPLAIN
THE MEANING OF THE SCOUT BADGE.
This is also in your Scout Handbook. We will ask you what the
shape, the eagle, the shield, the scroll, the stars, and the knot
symbolize. You'll also need to know what the 3 points represent. AFTER
A SHORT SCOUTMASTER CONFERENCE,
you will be officially awarded the rank of "Scout" at
your first Court
of Honor. We will present you with your Troop 1197 Neckerchief
at that ceremony. Your trail to Eagle has begun! |
